Hygroscopic crystal elements deteriorate when they are not normally held in sufficiently dry air (or maybe a dry purge gas). This is applicable e.g. to KDP and BBO, and in a lesser extent to LBO. It might be valuable to keep this type of crystal in a considerably elevated temperature, that makes it easier to hold it dry.Inertness to Humidity: BIBO
